National Aboriginal Courtworker Program

Member Training Web Site

En Francais

This site will now focus on training related items for courtworkers.  If you have suggestion for training please contact the webmaster.  Most material will be for members only so you will require a user ID and a password.  The good news is you can become a member by providing us some basic information.  If you would like to become a member you will need approval from your Director so start there.  Once your Director has given you the OK, then contact us and we will set you up as a member.  As a member you will have access to the following services:

1. Weekly conference calls with other courtworkers where you can discuss what you need to discuss. You do need a microphone enabled headset to plug into your computer.  The sessions are recorded so you can go back an review them as often as you would likel.

2. Access to specific training like: "...Basic Orientation All Courtworkers Should Have;" "...Courtworker Basics That All Courtworkers Need;" "...How Do I Become a Mentor?"  The present materials are used in Saskatchewan and courtworkers need to be evaluated and certified.  This is done every 2 years. (All training materials are electronic.)

3. Ask the lawyer? "...email your question and we will have a lawyer respond." Please note that you must be a member to use this service and the type of question will be limited to question of law, procedures, etc. will be answered.  This is not legal advice, but generic information for training purposes.

4. Ask a courtworker? "...email your question and we will have a courtworker will respond." Please note that you must be a member to use this service and the type of question will be limited.

5. Personal development for survival as a courtworker. The work of a courtworker is very stressful.  In this series you will get specific suggestions relating to your personal development. Now introducing weekly sessions.

6. You decide what you need and want and we will arrange it.

What is the first thing you need to do?  Contact your director (supervisor) and tell them you would like to participate and once they have given us the OK by sending me an email you will be set up as a member.  As a member you will get a personal email address - this address will be a courtworker.com email address and will forward to you existing email address unless you are using a free email like Hotmail TM, Yahoo TM, etc.  In that case you will be provided instruction on how to access and use the courtworker.com email.

What if I am just interested in becoming a member and I am not a courtworker?  If you complete the survey, we will try to accommodate your request.  The only question that we will ask regarding your request is: "Do you have a legitimate use for the material.  We do not want to waste your time and we do not want you to waste our time so if you have an interest - Are you a student? Are you in a related field of work? or Are you genuinely interested in the justice area?
